The Lamborghini 350 GTV was born out of a dispute between Ferruccio Lamborghini and Enzo Ferrari in the early 1960s. The former was an entrepreneur from Emilia, who had started a company that made high quality farming vehicles; the latter was the “Drake” from Modena, who founded the “prancing horse” car manufacturer.
Lamborghini owned a huge collection of luxury cars, and made cutting remarks about Ferrari models, which he believed were far too noisy; he even maintained that he had discovered that one of the mechanical components inside Ferraris was made by his own company and meant for farming vehicles.
Hearing the umpteenth criticism from Lamborghini directed towards the 200 GT, Ferrari did not hesitate to reply, “The car works fine. The problem is you only know how to drive a tractor.”
Ferruccio Lamborghini took on the challenge, and decided to start making sports cars.
The Lamborghini 350 GTV was designed by Fulvio Scaglione in 1962, and presented at Turin’s Car Show the following year. Many more striking models would follow… all thanks to a very productive quarrel.
